Let’s Blow Up Some Barrels!

August 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As I last posted, I had traded in some games towards Battlefield: Bad Company.  To sum up the game, you blow things up.  That’s pretty much it.  Whether it be with grenades, rocket launchers, or shooting bullets at explosive objects, the game just wants you to blow up as much as you can.  And I have a lot of fun doing it.

Battlefield: Bad Company kind of starts out like a summer movie with a monologue from your character Preston Marlowe.  From there, it quickly describes your recent transfer into Bad Company and throws you quickly into the action following the typical tutorial mode.  From what I have played, there is basically one large map which is slowly divided into different objectives.  The parts of the map you can explore grow as each objective is completed.

Maps have both collectibles and gold to pick up.  Collectibles are basically weapons and the gold hoarding doesn’t start until the second map.  Also, there are a variety of vehicles for you to drive.  One thing I find somewhat awkward is that the NPC won’t drive the vehicle for you if you decide you want to man the gun.  Just a slight complaint, but it would be nice if I could be blowing things to bits instead of just driving around.

The game is quick paced, saves frequently, and doesn’t really punish you for dying.  I have yet to hop into the multiplayer element yet, but want to wait until I complete the single player campaign.

Picked up Madden 09 as a rental yesterday…I usually get really amped up about that game until I play it for about a week when I have had my fill.  Will let you know how that goes letter this week…
